"Tung Yuen" Festival & Charity Hair Cutting for residents of Johor Cheshire Home  & Neesam Home

"Tung Yuen" festival is an annual festival for the Chinese people often referred to as 'Winter Solstice'. It's a festival to welcome the arrival of Spring time & to bid 'farewell' to the winter season. The myth or 'story' of this festival was/is that a mother whose army son had gone for a war and he wanted to return, but lost his way. So his mother made these small colourful glutinous rice 'balls' and stick them to all the trees, so that he can follow these 'balls' and get back home. And celebrating this festival is to remind us that we are one year older and it's about a month to the new lunar new year.

This project is the first major joint project between Lions Club of JB Host and Leo Club of SMK Permas Jaya. The Leos came in drove to help and taught the residents on how to roll those 'balls' and later cooked them to eat. Some Lions members were present too. At the same, 'Culture Hair Studio' from Taman Molek, joined us in giving free hair-cut to all the residents. A total of 45 residents from Cheshire Home and 20 children from Neesam Home attended the function. The project was held on 23rd December 2007 at Johor Chesire Home, J.B.
